Fire Alarm System

Home / Fire Alarm System

A Fire Alarm System is invented and designed to alert us to a fire emergency and to protect ourselves, staff and the general public and so that we can take other action. Fire alarms are found in Offices, public buildings and Factories; they are a part of our everyday routine but are often overlooked until there is an emergency, at which point, they might just save our lives.

The fire alarm system may also integrate a remote signal system which could then alert the fire brigade via a central station. The Fire Alarm Control Panel is considering the “Brain” of the fire detection system. It provides a status indication to the users and is the central hub for all of the detector signals to be wired to. In order to simulate the alarm, the unit can also be set up for use in routine Fire and evacuation drills, so all staff knows what action to take in the event of a real fire.

Different Types of Fire Alarm Detectors:

At the core of a system for a fire alarm are the detection devices, from intelligent, sophisticated smoke detectors to simple manually operated break glass units, there are a wide array of different types, but we can divide them into groups including:

  • Carbon Monoxide detectors
  • Multi-sensor detectors
  • Heat detectors
  • Smoke detectors
  • Manual Call Points

Different Types of Fire Alarm Systems:

Fire Alarm Systems can be subdivided into four main types;

  •  Conventional
  • Addressable
  • Intelligent
  •  Wireless

Let’s spend some time considering each.

How Do Fire Alarm Systems Works?

Through its initiating devices is the way a fire alarm system detects a fire. The fire alarm panel has a connection to the system’s which initiates devices through either circuit of 2- or 4-wire. This circuitry of the system allows the control panel to monitor the state of its initiating devices, identifying whether the devices are in alarm or normal mode, usually by zones. The control panel shows all of these readings and stats on its display panel.

When a fire starts, the heat or smoke will activate one of the initiating devices, or someone will manually activate the pull station, alerting the fire alarm system to the fire and putting it in alarm mode.
